King & I: A Motherhood Love Story

It is certainly true: The bond between a mother and her child is unbreakable. I’ve learned many motherhood lessons along the way raising my now 5 year old son—one of them being that “it’s not how much we give but how much love we put into giving.”

“I wanted to become a mother because I always felt like I had SO much to give. A heart full of love, and a soul longing for a child to raise so, we can explore the world together.”

My five-year-old son, Kingston, overheard me talking to his daddy once where I told my husband that the way into my heart are fresh flowers. I really don’t need, nor expect much—but one thing I truly appreciate is—when I receive a bouquet of flowers out of the blue. No special occasion, nothing. Just because—that’s it. It makes it so much more special because I feel like it’s not forced but rather a simple act of love and appreciation.

And my son remembers this conversation ’til this day…

One morning I walked my son to school. All of a sudden he stopped and said: “Wait, mommy!”, and picked up some flowers (aka dandelions but he thinks they are flowers). He handed them to me with a huge smile, “Look mommy, flowers for you!”. I was so touched by his sweet gesture that I started to cry. It was then that I realized that Kingston understood what it means to give out of pure love…

PS: I saved his first, little first bouquet of flowers aka dandelions in between some book pages which is our reminder that “it’s not about how much we have or give but how much love we put into giving.” And I couldn’t be more proud to have found a children’s toy company that takes this message to heart as well. Cuddle+Kind creates beautiful hand-knit dolls that help feed children, and with every cuddle+kind doll sold, they give 10 meals to children in need. Be sure to check them out HERE.

As always, thanks much for reading and have a wonderful Monday!

XOXO

Awwww! This post made me cry and wish to have my mini me soon. Giving out love is the best kind of giving because it satisfies the person giving and the one being given. You both look amazing!!

This is such a beautiful post, Vanessa! First off, Kingston is such a cutie, I love 3rd shot of him holding the knitted dolls, so cute! I think it’s so beautiful that he overheard what makes you happy and decided to translate that into his gift to you, so precious. Thanks so much for sharing, beautiful, as well as introducing us to Cuddle+Kind, it sounds like such a wonderful company and I love that they give back to help end child hunger. I hope you have the best week ahead!

That’s a great lesson to learn from a child. Not many parents understand that theory today, they think parenting is all about giving. The emotion attached to the giving is what counts, it gradually shapes a child’s personality.
Kingston is so lucky to have you love, first with the genes ๐Ÿ™ˆ then the good morals #cutenesoverload. Am happy for you Vanessa.
    Much love, Linet.
