The Truth About Motherhood

As a mother of two I’ve learned that raising kids is like a game of the highest stakes. We all want to do our best job possible and so we push forward each and every day—even if we face daily experiences that humble us, terrify us or even break us down. But here’s the thing about motherhood: As mother’s we can truly conquer anything if we realize that we need each other. Generations ago children were raised communally, and women relied on one another to thrive.

Preparing for Motherhood

I remember when I was pregnant with Kingston how I would reach out to all of my girlfriends who already were mothers. I needed their advice desperately. One I thing I knew from the beginning was that I did not want motherhood to be an isolating experience. It seems that we have lost the village that we so desperately need. And without acknowledging the truth—that motherhood is hard and messy and sometimes ugly—we isolate ourselves even more. But it does not have to be this way. I cannot stand it when women, i.e. mother’s start competing with another—like my child starting walking at 7 months, etc. Who cares? Each child develops in his/her own speed and that is totally fine. No need to compare each others children to one another.

Helping Each other out

I am blessed to have this platform to share advice—you can listen to it or not. It’s truly your decision. Never do I ever want to lecture you. You do YOU and I do ME. But since motherhood is part of my life I like to share some of my experiences with you, as well as share some of my favorite products, etc. Which brings me to Evenflo, one of my favorite brands when it comes to all things baby/children related.

The Reason Why Baby Strollers Are Important

I like to invest in a good stroller that is all about extended use. Jaxson is 18 months now and we literally started with Evenflo since he was born. The new Evenflo Pivot Xpand is seriously the best stroller. He loves looking at cars (especially when we are downtown!) or the dogs that would pass us by. The Pivot Xpand is a truly versatile and functional that gives busy moms, like myself, the ability to easily move around with my little Jax safely alongside me.

He is so cute! I’m not a mother, but working as a teacher I know that taking care of kids is the most responsible job. We need to support one another and work together to make this place safer and better for the kids. Lovely photos, love your outfit<3…

Such a cutie! I love what you said about not isolating yourself. I hope that when I have kiddos I can find a mama tribe to support me (or just listen to how tired I am!). Knowing you’re not alone in something makes a world of difference. And as a former nanny and child care working I KNOW how important a good stroller is haha. The ones that can turn on a dime are worth EVERY penny!
BTW, you look amazing and your little is too cute!

My kids are teens now and I’ve got to say that every year it keeps changing. New experiences and new challenges. You’re so right about the importance of having a village. One of the best things I did as a new mom was join a mom and me group. The women in that group became and still are my best friends and having them to talk to is the best thing in the world.

I’m always so impressed with the strength of mothers. You’re an inspiration to us all! I completely agree that women need to stop competing – especially with their children’s milestones. It’s easy to isolate yourself when everything seems to be a jealous competition. You’re so good to treat other women with the respect they deserve! Your mom friends are so lucky 🙂

What a beautiful truth! Motherhood is messy and hard and becomes much more beautiful when we have others to learn on and share with. You have a darling little one and such an amazing message to share!

I love this post Vanessa. It’s so important to be supportive – I was miles away from my family when my children were born and it was nice to have supportive friends (and I totally agree that we should not make it a competition!)
