It’s been a minute since I’ve written a blog post but I’m back! I’m so excited to share a home renovation project with you! Over the last few weeks my husband and I ripped out our carpet in our family room and put in wood laminate flooring. We’re DIY project lovers and this renovation was a fun one!
Love the look of hardwood floors but intimated by the upkeep or cost? Consider laminate wood flooring instead. A few months ago my husband and I went to Lowes and shopped around for flooring. We thought about getting hardwood flooring but looking at the pre-finished plank laminate flooring, our minds changed. It is not only easier to install than hardwood flooring (while offering the same appearance) it is also a lot sturdier than hardwood floors. With two kids and three dogs we knew we needed something that doesn’t show scratches as easily, etc.
How to do it
Step 1
We read that your laminate wood flooring should sit in the room for at least 48 hours prior to installation, giving it time to expand or contract in relation to the room’s temperature and humidity.
Step 2
This step was a family affair (see video below)! My boys helped clear the floor of staples, nails, and other debris. My husband and I then rolledout the underlayment. The foam underlayment deadens sound and helps the floor feel more resilient and durable.

I remember years ago, my sister and dad tried to put laminate in her bedroom but they couldn’t do it and had to hire someone. I kinda want to try this though.
