Friendships & New York Fashion Week

NYFW-Friendships-Vanessa-Lambert-WhatWouldVWear

New York Fashion Week (NYFW) is one the biggest fashion events in town, so it’s only natural that you want to celebrate in style with your girlfriends. This year I decided to bring along my neighborhood friends. I thought this would be a great opportunity to give them a glimpse of “my world” but also find a way how we can connect on a deeper level besides being “mom friends”.

We are a team.

If you have been following me for a while you probably already know that I am a fierce believer in “women supporting women”. My girlfriends are my family. They are my squad.

“You protect me, I protect you. We’re a squad. We’re the biggest cheerleaders in each other’s lives.” It’s that simple. When I consider you my friend I’ll give 100%. I give freely without expecting anything in return because that is what friendship is all about. However, friendships take time (just like any relationship) which is why I like to keep my circle small. I have 5 really, really close friends. Those are the ones that know me inside and out, have seen me at my worst, comforted me and, simply put, just love me who I really am. And then there are the ones that you haven’t known for a very long time and yet they touch your heart. I refer to them as soul sisters. I am blessed that I have met mine, Michelle. We’ve known each other for just 4 years but it really feels like that we’ve known each other our entire lives.

“Women understand. We may share experiences, make jokes, paint pictures, and describe humiliations that mean nothing to men, but women understand. The odd thing about these deep and personal connections of women is that they often ignore barriers of age, economics, worldly experience, race, culture — all the barriers that, in male or mixed society, had seemed so difficult to cross.” — Gloria Steinem

From left to right: Cayce, Vanessa, Sandi and Amber. These ladies are beautiful inside and out.

Be a cheerleader.

Sometimes all you need to do is reach out, be a cheerleader! When the opportunity came along to attend NYFW this season I didn’t hesitate and asked my neighborhood gals if they wanted to come along. And I am so glad that I did! We shared so much laughter and stories I will forever cherish. So thank you, for coming along! You made Fashion Week a lot more fun. And thank you to Michelle, Jennifer M., Anna-Lena, Gordana, Anastasia, Christiane and my mom for being my support, my backbone, and the reason I see the world a little bit brighter.

It’s lovely to see you have such a good time with your girlfriends and combine that with another passion of yours – fashion.
As we grow older, well anyway, as I’ve grown older ( ; I see that it’s really quality over quantity and I’ve learnt that my closest girlfriends needn’t be the ones I see all the time or who even live in the same country as me.
One of my closest girlfriends lives in Chicago and apart from last year when I flew over for her 40th we hadn’t seen each other since I was bridesmaid at her wedding almost 10 years ago. But we have kept in touch via calling and every traumatic event I’ve been through in the last 10 years, she’s been there giving me advice. Love her to bits.
    Happy wkend hon! Xx

It’s wonderful to have really close friends to support you when you need it and to support in return as well as to have fun with. It’s great that you have a group of friends like that.
