Staying True To Yourself

Chicwish_Off-the-Shoulder-Top_What-Would-V-Wear_Vanessa-Lambert_Spring 2016

Losing yourself is one of the easiest things to do especially when you’re a digital publisher, i.e. blogger. One thing I’ve learned early on is that it is of utter importance not to compare yourself to other bloggers. Whether you’re a blogger, an artist, or a small business owner — we often cannot help but look at someone else’s photo, and think, “Am I enough?” Believe me, I’ve been there as well. Comparison comes natural to all of us, because, the reality is, we are all only human. However, it is unhealthy — nothing good comes out it. I’ve learned that it is far more important to focus on yourself instead, and remember that behind each perfect photograph, is a person too. A person with insecurities, just like you and me.

As the saying goes, “The pie is big enough for everyone to have a slice — which brings me to the importance to supporting one another. There truly isn’t anything more beautiful than women supporting women. Stop comparing and judging each other but instead lift each other up!

What are your thoughts on this topic? As always, I would love to hear from you!

Much love.

What a beautiful and honest post. In this day and age of social media, it’s so easy to get caught up and to start comparing ourselves to others. And as you’ve taugh me, not to compare myself to other and instead focus on creating quality content.
I’m so glad we connected. I hope one day we will meet?

Vanessa I really couldn’t agree more, it’s so important for women to support each other and lift each other up!! Wish more people had your amazing attitude! Yes comparing yourself to others especially when you are fashion blogging is so unhealthy but you are right that it’s also hard not to at times so you really have to be mindful of this. This is such a great post my friend, I love and appreciate all of the positive and inspiring messages you share! Love you girl:) Oh and of course you are killing it in this chic off-the-shoulder top, gorgeous!

what a wonderful post with true and wise words, it’s so important to see the persons behind the blogger’s and not just a random “photo” of anyone being there…And of course support is so important and such a blessing! Without support – from friends, family, other bloggers or just fans) nothing is possible and so it’s important to be grateful and support other’s too <3

I am a huge proponent for women supporting women! When you really think about it, and this is something I’ve said time and time again — We are all on the same team. Being a woman is difficult in every setting one can think of: socially, economically, culturally.. If we can’t support each other, how can we expect to progress? One thing I particularly love about this online community of ours is the mutual understanding and respect for one another. And of course, getting connected with other strong-minded, independent women!

First off, you look absolutely gorgeous! I love this entire outfit, the striped off the shoulder looks perfect paired with the white skinnies and you already know how much I love you in hats! I couldn’t agree more with all of what you’ve said here. It takes maturity and confidence to put ourselves in continual check when we begin to compare ourselves to others and when jealousy wants to rear its ugly head, but it’s a must because like you’ve said, nothing good comes out of it and there is indeed enough slices of pie or enough glitter in the jar for everyone. I’m one who believes that we all need each other somehow and so it’s wise to make connections and support each other in whatever way possible, creating and encouraging success and opportunities for all of us. Like a body, there are certain parts that have more responsibilities and functions, like the brain and heart. However, have you ever cut your finger or stubbed your toe?! It’s almost as if your whole body begins to depend on that one little part of the body to function, even though it’s not as major as the brain or the heart. I feel the same with all of our gifts and careers, they all intertwine. I greatly appreciate you sharing this topic with us because sometimes, we need a reminder that supporting someone else, doesn’t dampen the chance of our own success. In fact, it can help it! I hope you have the most amazing weekend ahead, my beautiful friend! Sending lots of love and a huge hug your way!

I totally agree with you that it’s important to stay true to yourself and have your own style and vibe.
There is so many bloggers out there try to become full time influencers and to reach that goal I think no.1 thing for sure is to be the best version of yourself and not compering to others:)

Dear V., again so wise words and so sweet! Yes, that’s something I have always been thinking and sometimes I tell ssome people – we shouldn’t compare ourselves to anybody. If I did, I wouldn’t publish any picture anymore. Mine are not the best, I am chubby, I struggle to have some pics done, and if I compare, then I won’t write a post anymore. We should support each other, that’s true. I know a blogger that I am trying to get away from her, cause she is very competitive and thinks she is the most polite one, this and that, and always writes nasty words. That’s an example of someone I don’t want to be! You look lovely as usual, beautiful striped top and sandals – you are just an angel!

I needed to hear this today!! So many bloggers are just out for themselves, and don’t truly form friendships/relationships unless it will benefit them. I get so sick of it, and I personally think Dallas is the WORST for this. Anyway, definitely good to vent but I agree, we should support one another because what happens when the bloggers you didn’t give the time of day become bigger than you..? 🙂 You have always been so sweet Vanessa, and I know that is why you are growing so rapidly and doing an amazing job!

Love your thoughts on this. I agree wholeheartedly — we are all so unique and different which is what makes the industry really special. We all benefit when we support each other! I was looking at a big Instagram account (blog related) a couple of nights ago and in one of the photos, people were leaving the most cruel comments about the person in the photo. Sooo upsetting… it’s like people forget that there’s a real person with feelings and a heart.

Anyway, those are my thoughts 🙂 Thank you for sharing, as always. You’re wonderful!

This is a topic I’ve always felt very strongly about. There’s so much competition going on that often, we lose sight of why we’re in the game to begin with. And I’ll be honest. It took a long time for me to personally get over those feelings of envy towards the pretty young things for whom success appeared to come so easily. It’s still very much a work-in-progress but at least these days, I don’t make comparisons with anyone but myself anymore. I’m going with the mentality that it’s me versus me. How I can be better next week, compared to how I was last week. Thank you, babe, for sharing this. Sometimes, it gets overwhelming when you think you’re the only one having doubts and insecurities 🙂 xoxoxo

  39. May 13, 2016 / 10:44 PM

I really love this look on you!

And, yes, not comparing yourself to others is so important, yet sometimes so hard to do, especially when you blog and read blogs regularly… As I’m getting older, I find I’m letting go of the comparing more and more, but I know I still do it to some degree…

And women supporting other women truly is one of the best things in life. I remember a popular blogger from when I started blogging seven years ago that always said that “the internet is big enough for all of us” and that we should all support each other. Not everyone believed her then and not everyone believes it now, which is truly too bad… Thanks for what you do to make it a better place!

    Have a wonderful weekend!

This post was amazing to read. I definitely agree- my biggest downfall is comparing to others. As a small blogger, I often get down and wonder if what I’m doing is even worth it, but it’s important for me to remember why I got into blogging in the first place, and that’s for a creative outlet that’s FUN. And of course, the people I’ve gotten to connect with along the way make it all worth it. (you’re one of them!)
